2) Community Centre Names
The soon-to-be named Community Centre on Guelph
Line & the 401 is nearing completion. This is the site of the former
Campbellville Fire Hall, replacing the building that has been vacant
since the Emergency Response Centre was built on Reid Sideroad. (A
portion of the building is also the clubhouse for the Nassagaweya
Tennis Club.) A Public Meeting will be held (likely in March) to
consider naming this facility the Nassagaweya Community Centre. The
current Nassagaweya Community Centre would become known as
Brookville Hall, reflecting its location in Brookville & honouring
the heritage of the building it replaced both in architecture & use.
The name of the Campbellville Lions Hall would remain unchanged. I
welcome your comments.
3) Heart in the Arts - last chance
This Campaign is nearing both its conclusion (February 28th) and its
goal of $2.2M to offset operating costs of the centre in the first
10 years and keep rental rates affordable for community groups. As
of Thursday, there were just 137 Theatre Seats (at $250) and three
piano keys at $88) left to sponsor. Tax receipts offered.

4) Town Auction
When equipment/furniture is purchased, the Town offers the replaced
items on the Auction site. Currently there are 16 computers for
sale.
www.milton.ca. Click on Online Services/auction. Registration is
easy - but note the conditions. (I'm currently using one of
these computers from an earlier auction. A Warning: I may be bidding
against you!)
5) Mayor's Breakfast
Very successful. I'm working with the NCCC & DCCA to host a Rural
Mayor & Chair Breakfast in Nassagaweya this Spring.
I'm attaching Mario's Power Point which I think you will find
interesting.

6) Cortese Arrest
This is outside of what I would normally include, but I think there
is interest in this since he is the former owner of the San Antonio
Bistro in the Plaza on Crawford Court. (now owned by his father).
The short version: Nick Cortese was arrested for shoplifting at a
Canadian Tire store in Quebec. He has been ordered to stand trial on
charges in Quebec, and faces outstanding charges after failing to
appear for a Ontario Court Date in 2008 on charges of mortgage
fraud and faces numerous other arrest warrants.
(If you want more details, I can email the link to a National Post
story.)
San Antonio Bistro status: Milton's Building Dept.issued the
property owners an Order to Remedy Unsafe Building pursuant to the
Ontario Building Code at the time of the fire incident; it is
currently still active. The property owners were advised to i)
secure the building, ii) prevent entry and access of unauthorized
persons iii) remove the solid masonry end gables to a safe height
and iv) provide an engineer's report as to structural stability. I
will provide more information as it is available.
7) Suggestions
for topics or improvement for this e-news are always welcome.
(Are the attachments too much?
Should I only post them on my website to keep the file smaller? Let me
know your preference. I'll go with the majority.)
